Home Battery Backup in Fall River

Fall River's community electricity price is fixed until November 2028. That settles the supply line on the bill. It doesn't change who restores the power, or what a battery does when the power is out.

What a home battery runs during a Worcester winter outageThe grid is down and snow covers the array, so the grid-tied solar system produces nothing. The battery feeds a critical load panel, keeping the refrigerator, heating controls, well pump and networking running, while air conditioning, the electric range and the dryer stay off. A reserve floor is held back for outages.GRID DOWNSOLAR 0 kWFRIDGEHEATPUMPWIFIA/CRANGEDRYEROFFBATTERYreserve floor heldback for outages

Fall River CEA Standard: 14.346¢/kWh, November 2025 to November 2028. National Grid Basic Service, Aug 2026–Jan 2027: 17.185¢.

The short answer

Fall River is National Grid territory, and the City's Fall River Community Electricity Aggregation sets the supply price for enrolled homes: 14.346¢ per kWh on the default product, fixed through November 2028. National Grid still delivers, bills and restores outages.

A fixed per-kWh price leaves little for a battery to arbitrage, and we don't pretend otherwise. A battery's job here is keeping the circuits you choose running through an outage — sized to a critical load panel, with a heat pump being the big winter decision.

Three things that are specific to here

Fall River's supply price is settled for years. Here is what that does and doesn't decide.

A supply price locked to 2028

Fall River Community Electricity Aggregation's default Standard product is 14.346¢ per kWh, and the 100%-renewable Plus product 15.475¢, for 36 months: November 2025 to November 2028 meter reads. Constellation is the supplier.

One of the older programs

Fall River's aggregation plan was approved in 2015, and a revised plan went to the DPU in January 2025. Fall River is on a renewed contract; neighbouring Brockton is still waiting on DPU approval for its first.

National Grid still runs the wires

The program changes the supply price only. National Grid still delivers the power, sends the bill and restores outages — and handles solar and battery interconnection.

What a Fall River battery actually does

A battery doesn't prevent an outage. It decides which circuits keep running until the crew is done.

A flat price is not a battery business case

Fall River's program price is one figure per kWh for the whole term, and the program itself says savings against Basic Service can't be guaranteed. We don't sell a battery on supply-price arbitrage.

It is for the outage, first

What a battery reliably does is keep chosen circuits running while National Grid restores service — heating controls and circulators, refrigeration, a sump pump, internet and lights.

Heat-pump homes size differently

National Grid offers a discounted heat pump delivery rate from November through April, and the program site notes it stacks with the aggregation price. A house heated by a heat pump is a much bigger winter battery than one with a gas or oil boiler.

Summer program, winter outages

National Grid's ConnectedSolutions pays batteries for summer-afternoon events, while winter storms are the classic outage season. How much of the battery to reserve is a real design choice; the Lowell page walks through it.

Fall River next to other Massachusetts programs

Brockton is at the other end of the process — its plan is still before the DPU. Quincy runs a program across two delivery utilities, and Newton is the Eversource version. Lowell covers National Grid's ConnectedSolutions season against winter outages. A battery added to existing solar is its own interconnection — adding a battery to an existing array explains why.

Where these facts come from

What a home battery job with us covers

Installation of storage and the backup circuits behind it, with the siting and utility paperwork handled.

  • Battery installation

Wall or floor-mounted storage installed to the listing and to the residential code sections that govern where it may go.

  • Backup and critical load panel

Deciding and wiring which circuits stay live, and which must never be on backup — the choice that defines what an outage feels like.

  • Integration with existing PV solar

Connecting storage to an array that is already on the roof, including whether the existing inverter supports it.

  • Transfer switch and disconnection

The equipment that separates the house from the grid during an outage, which is what makes backup legal as well as possible.

  • Siting to code

Location, clearances, separation and impact protection assessed against the adopted code before anything is mounted.

  • Permit, inspection and utility approval

The electrical permit, the inspection, and the utility's own approval step where storage touches the service.

This is installation work. No runtime, capacity or incentive figure is quoted before your loads and your utility are confirmed. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.

What the work actually looks like

A battery job is an electrical job. The panel, the circuits and the disconnection are most of it.

Which circuits stay live in an outage is decided at the panel, and it is the decision homeowners regret getting wrong.

Battery backup in Fall River, answered plainly

Who is the electric utility in Fall River?+

National Grid. It delivers the power, restores outages and handles interconnection for solar and batteries. Fall River Community Electricity Aggregation sets the supply price for enrolled customers but does not replace National Grid.

What is Fall River's community electricity rate?+

Per the program site, the default Standard product is 14.346¢ per kWh and the Plus product (100% renewable) is 15.475¢, from November 2025 to November 2028 meter reads, including a 0.1¢ administration fee. Delivery charges are separate and unaffected. For comparison, National Grid's fixed residential Basic Service price is 17.185¢ for August 2026 through January 2027; the program notes savings are not guaranteed over the full term.

Does the aggregation affect my solar or a battery?+

The program changes only the supply portion of the bill. Interconnection, outage restoration and solar or battery paperwork stay with National Grid. We handle that application rather than leaving it with you.

Will a battery lower my bill in Fall River?+

Not much through the supply price, which is fixed per kWh for the program term. Programs like ConnectedSolutions can pay for summer discharge, under terms that change, so we don't promise a figure. A battery's dependable value is outage backup.

How long will a battery run my house?+

It depends on the battery's capacity, the circuits on it and the season, so we don't quote a runtime before seeing the panel and your loads. A heat pump in January is a very different load from a refrigerator and lights.

Who installs it, and who is responsible afterwards?+

Seamless Home is the licensed contractor of record on the work it runs. Installation is performed by vetted installing partners engaged as our subcontractors, so the permit, the inspection and any correction notice carry one name. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.
