Home Battery Backup in New Bedford

Eversource delivers the power. New Bedford's Community Electricity Aggregation sets a published supply rate through November 2028. ConnectedSolutions pays for summer peak discharge. A battery still has to cover the night the line is down.

What a home battery runs during a Worcester winter outageThe grid is down and snow covers the array, so the grid-tied solar system produces nothing. The battery feeds a critical load panel, keeping the refrigerator, heating controls, well pump and networking running, while air conditioning, the electric range and the dryer stay off. CEA Standard 14.346¢/kWh through Nov 2028 · Eversource delivery · ConnectedSolutions $275/kW.

The short answer

New Bedford is Eversource delivery territory. Enrolled homes can take New Bedford Community Electricity Aggregation supply at a published 14.346¢/kWh Standard rate from November 2025 until November 2028 meter reads — while Eversource still handles the wires, the bill and the outages.

A home battery interconnects with Eversource and can enroll in ConnectedSolutions at the published $275 per kW summer performance rate. Aggregation does not keep the lights on when the street is dark — size for outage loads first.

Why New Bedford is different from a generic MA battery page

Supply price, delivery utility and demand-response pay are three separate lines.

Eversource delivers; CEA sets the supply price

New Bedford Community Electricity Aggregation (masscea.com/new-bedford) buys supply for enrolled customers. Eversource still delivers power, sends the bill and restores outages. A battery interconnects with Eversource regardless of which supply product is on the bill.

Standard CEA rate locked through November 2028

The program's Standard product (community default) is published at 14.346¢/kWh for all rate classes from November 2025 until November 2028 meter reads. The Plus product is 15.475¢/kWh for 100% renewable RECs. Prices include a 0.1¢/kWh administration fee.

Basic Service is a moving comparison

The same CEA page lists Eversource residential Basic Service at 14.884¢/kWh for August 1, 2026 – January 31, 2027. Basic Service resets on a schedule; the CEA page itself says savings versus Basic Service are not guaranteed.

What a New Bedford battery actually has to do

Incentives pay for peak discharge. Backup pays for the night the line is down.

ConnectedSolutions pays for summer performance

Eversource residential customers can enroll an eligible battery in ConnectedSolutions. Mass Save program materials list $275 per kW of average contribution during summer events, with no more than 60 events a summer between 3 and 8 p.m., June through September.

Aggregation does not keep the lights on

CEA changes only the supply line on the bill. When the street is dark, grid-tied solar still shuts down for safety unless a battery and transfer equipment island the house. Design for outage loads first.

Heat-pump delivery discount is separate

The CEA page notes Eversource's heat-pump delivery rate (winter discount on delivery, starting November 1, 2025 for eligible Mass Save-supported heat pumps). That is a delivery charge — it does not change the CEA supply rate or replace a backup battery.

Confirm SEMA account and inverter size

ConnectedSolutions eligibility runs through the Eversource account that pays into the energy-efficiency fund. Program materials cap the small-scale battery table at inverter capacity of 50 kW or less.

New Bedford next to Fall River, Newton and Lynn

Across the river, Fall River is National Grid delivery under a community supply price. Newton is also Eversource, but its aggregation runs through masspowerchoice.com — a different program. Lynn sits on National Grid ConnectedSolutions+. New Bedford's water story is on New Bedford water quality.

What a home battery job with us covers

Installation of storage and the backup circuits behind it, with the siting and utility paperwork handled.

  • Battery installation

Wall or floor-mounted storage installed to the listing and to the residential code sections that govern where it may go.

  • Backup and critical load panel

Deciding and wiring which circuits stay live, and which must never be on backup — the choice that defines what an outage feels like.

  • Integration with existing PV solar

Connecting storage to an array that is already on the roof, including whether the existing inverter supports it.

  • Transfer switch and disconnection

The equipment that separates the house from the grid during an outage, which is what makes backup legal as well as possible.

  • Siting to code

Location, clearances, separation and impact protection assessed against the adopted code before anything is mounted.

  • Permit, inspection and utility approval

The electrical permit, the inspection, and the utility's own approval step where storage touches the service.

This is installation work. No runtime, capacity or incentive figure is quoted before your loads and your utility are confirmed. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.

What the work actually looks like

A battery job is an electrical job. The panel, the circuits and the disconnection are most of it.

Where the unit can go is a code question before it is a preference — clearances, separation and impact protection.

Which circuits stay live in an outage is decided at the panel, and it is the decision homeowners regret getting wrong.

New Bedford battery backup, answered plainly

Who is the electric utility in New Bedford?+

Eversource delivers electricity in New Bedford. Outages, interconnection and net metering run through Eversource. New Bedford Community Electricity Aggregation may set the supply price on enrolled accounts, but it does not replace Eversource as the delivery utility.

What is New Bedford CEA?+

It is the City's Community Electricity Aggregation program, published at masscea.com/new-bedford. The Standard product is 14.346¢/kWh and the Plus product is 15.475¢/kWh from November 2025 until November 2028 meter reads. Delivery charges are unchanged.

Does CEA affect a home battery?+

Indirectly at most. The battery still interconnects with Eversource. CEA changes the supply cents on the bill; ConnectedSolutions performance payments and outage backup are separate questions.

What does ConnectedSolutions pay?+

Mass Save materials for Eversource, National Grid and Cape Light Compact list $275 per kW of average summer contribution for small-scale batteries, with event caps described on the program pages. We re-check the current rate before enrollment.

Is this the same as Newton's Power Choice page?+

No. Newton uses a different municipal aggregation site (masspowerchoice.com/newton) under Eversource. New Bedford uses MassCEA. Fall River and Lynn on this site are National Grid delivery — different utilities entirely.

Who installs it, and who is responsible afterwards?+

Seamless Home is the licensed contractor of record on the work it runs. Installation is performed by vetted installing partners engaged as our subcontractors, so the permit, the inspection and any correction notice carry one name. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.
