Home Battery Backup in Avondale

APS R-TOU-E files summer on-peak at 34.396¢/kWh for the 4–7 p.m. weekday window. Monsoon outages do not follow that calendar. An Avondale battery has to do both jobs.

What a home battery runs during a Worcester winter outageThe grid is down and snow covers the array, so the grid-tied solar system produces nothing. The battery feeds a critical load panel, keeping the refrigerator, heating controls, well pump and networking running, while air conditioning, the electric range and the dryer stay off. APS R-TOU-E: 34.396¢ summer on-peak · 12.345¢ off-peak · 3.495¢ winter super off-peak.

The short answer

Avondale is largely APS territory. On the filed R-TOU-E schedule, summer on-peak energy is 34.396¢/kWh for 4–7 p.m. weekdays, against 12.345¢ summer off-peak and 3.495¢ winter super off-peak (10 a.m.–3 p.m. weekdays, November–April bills).

Those cents shape when a battery should still be full. They do not replace sizing for monsoon and heat outages. Confirm APS and your actual rate plan at the meter before treating R-TOU-E figures as yours.

Why Avondale is different from a generic West Valley battery page

Peoria covers the window. Goodyear covers Storage Rewards dollars. This page quotes the filed energy charges.

Summer on-peak is filed at 34.396¢/kWh

APS Rate Schedule TOU-E (R-TOU-E) lists a summer on-peak energy charge of $0.34396 per kWh for the 4 p.m.–7 p.m. weekday window — the number Peoria's window page does not quote.

Off-peak and winter super off-peak are published too

The same schedule lists summer off-peak at $0.12345/kWh, winter on-peak at $0.32543, winter off-peak at $0.12351, and winter super off-peak (10 a.m.–3 p.m. weekdays, Nov–Apr bills) at $0.03495/kWh.

The window is still 4–7 p.m. weekdays

On-peak hours under R-TOU-E are 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday year-round. Weekends and APS's listed holidays are off-peak — the same window Peoria describes, now with the filed cents attached.

What an Avondale battery actually has to do

Filed cents are a rate-plan story. Backup is whenever the feeder drops.

Cents decide when the battery should still be full

A three-hour weekday peak at roughly 34¢ is a different design problem from monsoon backup. We size the critical load panel first, then decide how much headroom to leave for the 4–7 p.m. window.

Winter super off-peak is a charging opportunity

From November through April billing cycles, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. weekdays are super off-peak at 3.495¢/kWh on this schedule. Midday charging from solar or the grid in those months is not the same problem as a July evening peak.

Confirm APS before quoting R-TOU-E

Avondale is largely APS, but West Valley service territories are not uniform. We verify the electric utility and the customer's actual rate schedule at the meter before treating these cents as applicable.

Storage Rewards is a separate program

APS Storage Rewards ($110/kW capacity payment) is covered on the Goodyear page. This Avondale page stays on the filed TOU energy charges so the two offers are not mixed into one undifferentiated West Valley story.

Avondale next to Peoria, Goodyear and Glendale

Peoria walks through the APS 4–7 p.m. window without the cents. Goodyear quotes Storage Rewards at $110/kW. Glendale covers APS RCP export context. Avondale's water story is on Avondale water quality.

Where these figures come from

Everything on this page traces to APS's filed residential TOU schedule.

What a home battery job with us covers

Installation of storage and the backup circuits behind it, with the siting and utility paperwork handled.

  • Battery installation

Wall or floor-mounted storage installed to the listing and to the residential code sections that govern where it may go.

  • Backup and critical load panel

Deciding and wiring which circuits stay live, and which must never be on backup — the choice that defines what an outage feels like.

  • Integration with existing PV solar

Connecting storage to an array that is already on the roof, including whether the existing inverter supports it.

  • Transfer switch and disconnection

The equipment that separates the house from the grid during an outage, which is what makes backup legal as well as possible.

  • Siting to code

Location, clearances, separation and impact protection assessed against the adopted code before anything is mounted.

  • Permit, inspection and utility approval

The electrical permit, the inspection, and the utility's own approval step where storage touches the service.

This is installation work. No runtime, capacity or incentive figure is quoted before your loads and your utility are confirmed. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.

What the work actually looks like

A battery job is an electrical job. The panel, the circuits and the disconnection are most of it.

Avondale battery backup, answered plainly

Who is the electric utility in Avondale?+

Most of Avondale is Arizona Public Service (APS) territory. Confirm at your address before designing a battery or quoting R-TOU-E cents — West Valley boundaries are not always obvious from the city limit.

What are the APS R-TOU-E on-peak hours?+

Under Rate Schedule TOU-E, on-peak is 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays year-round. Weekends and APS's listed holidays are off-peak. Winter billing months add super off-peak from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.

Where do the ¢/kWh figures come from?+

From APS's filed Rate Schedule TOU-E (R-TOU-E), effective March 8, 2024 under Decision No. 79293: summer on-peak $0.34396, summer off-peak $0.12345, winter on-peak $0.32543, winter off-peak $0.12351, winter super off-peak $0.03495 per kWh.

How is this different from the Peoria or Goodyear pages?+

Peoria covers the APS 4–7 p.m. window without quoting the energy charges. Goodyear quotes the Storage Rewards $110/kW capacity payment. Avondale quotes the filed R-TOU-E cents.

Will shifting load off the 4–7 p.m. window pay for a battery?+

We do not promise bill savings. The filed spread between on-peak and off-peak is real; whether it covers hardware depends on your usage, rate plan and how the battery is dispatched. Outage backup is sized separately.

Who installs it, and who is responsible afterwards?+

Seamless Home is the licensed contractor of record on the work it runs. Installation is performed by vetted installing partners engaged as our subcontractors. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.
