Colorado River via CAP — about 57%

The 2024 Peoria portfolio lists about 57 percent Colorado River water delivered by the Central Arizona Project. Long open-canal transit in a hot climate is why disinfection byproducts show up in West Valley reports.

Salt and Verde Rivers via SRP — about 35%

About 35 percent of the 2024 mix. Salt River Project surface water from the Salt and Verde watersheds. The blend with CAP is why a Peoria neighbour and a Phoenix neighbour are not on the same water.

Well water — about 8%

About eight percent groundwater. ADEQ source-water assessment language in the CCR notes that wells can carry a high-risk designation for adjacent land use — which is a source-protection fact, not a tap reading. Wells are also why arsenic shows up in the regulated table.

What is in the system, and what the 2024 report actually says

Federal Maximum Contaminant Levels are fixed. The ranges next to them are from the City of Peoria 2024 Consumer Confidence Report for PWS ID AZ0407096 — system-level figures, not a reading at your tap. A later CCR supersedes them.

Arsenic

Naturally occurring in West Valley groundwater. The federal MCL is 10 ppb. Peoria's 2024 report lists a range of not-detected to 5.8 µg/L with a reported average of 5.8 µg/L — below the MCL, and not zero. Reverse osmosis addresses dissolved arsenic; a carbon pitcher does not.

Total trihalomethanes (TTHM)

A disinfection byproduct. The federal MCL is 80 ppb as a running annual average. The 2024 report lists an average of 51.7 µg/L and a sample range of 32.2 to 83.6 µg/L. Compliance is judged on the running annual average, not on a single high sample. Activated carbon addresses TTHM; a softener does not.

Haloacetic acids (HAA5)

The other regulated chlorine-byproduct family. The federal MCL is 60 ppb. The 2024 report lists an average of 12.6 µg/L and a sample range of 6.6 to 17 µg/L. Activated carbon is the matching treatment.

Chromium (total)

The 2024 report lists total chromium as not-detected to 28 µg/L with an average of 11 µg/L against a federal MCL of 100 ppb. Hexavalent chromium has no separate federal MCL. Reverse osmosis is the residential option for dissolved chromium.

Nitrate

The 2024 report lists nitrate as 0.4 to 6.6 mg/L with an average of 2.3 mg/L against a federal MCL of 10 mg/L. Elevated nitrate is a short-term concern for infants; the CCR itself carries that health note. Point-of-use reverse osmosis is the usual residential answer when a tap test confirms it.
