Home Battery Backup in Gilbert

Gilbert has two electric utilities. On the SRP side, the Battery Partner program pays for what a battery adds above its own daily routine — in a summer season and a winter season — and never drains it below 20%.

What a home battery runs during a Worcester winter outageThe grid is down and snow covers the array, so the grid-tied solar system produces nothing. The battery feeds a critical load panel, keeping the refrigerator, heating controls, well pump and networking running, while air conditioning, the electric range and the dryer stay off. A reserve floor is held back for outages.GRID DOWNSOLAR 0 kWFRIDGEHEATPUMPWIFIA/CRANGEDRYEROFFBATTERYreserve floor heldback for outages

SRP Battery Partner measures the reward against the battery's own baseline. A battery already cycling for the price plan is credited for the extra, not the routine.

The short answer

Gilbert is served by SRP and APS, depending on the address. A grid-tied array produces nothing in an outage; a battery with the right switching keeps selected circuits up. On the SRP side, the program that pays for battery performance is SRP Battery Partner — a pilot running through April 30, 2030.

Two details shape the design. Rewards are measured on capacity above the battery's own baseline, and SRP never discharges below 20% — which may be less reserve than an outage needs. We size to a critical load panel, set the reserve deliberately, and confirm program terms in writing for your address.

Three things that are specific to here

Not the monsoon — the utility line and the way SRP's battery program is measured.

Two utilities inside one town

The Town of Gilbert lists two electric providers, SRP and APS, and tells residents to call whichever serves the address during an outage. Battery programs, price plans and interconnection rules are run per utility, so the first line of a Gilbert battery design is the name on the electric bill.

SRP pays for the extra, not the routine

SRP Battery Partner rewards are calculated on average incremental capacity above the battery's own Baseline Capacity Performance — its typical output in the same hours on the four best of the previous five similar days. A battery that already discharges every afternoon for the price plan is credited for what it adds during an event, not for its normal daily cycle.

Two seasons, and a 20% floor

The program year has a summer season (May 1 to October 31) and a winter season (November 1 to April 30), with credits applied after each. SRP says it will never discharge an enrolled battery below 20%. That floor is SRP's; the backup reserve a household actually needs for an outage may be higher, and is set at commissioning.

What a Gilbert battery actually runs

A summer outage produces the critical-load list. The program settings decide how much of the battery is left for it.

Cooling, sized honestly

A central air conditioner through a summer outage is the largest load a Gilbert battery will be asked about. Whether it is in or out of the critical-load panel decides the size of everything else, and we answer that before naming equipment.

Pool pumps — usually out

A pool pump is a long-running load that can drain a battery that was meant for refrigeration and medical equipment. Most designs leave it off the backed-up circuits.

Refrigeration, networking, medical equipment

Small continuous draws with high consequences. Oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines and powered mobility belong in the first conversation, because they turn a battery from a convenience into a dependency.

A reserve that survives an event

The Battery Partner terms allow events even when a device is in a hold mode at the start, and participants can opt out of a current or future event through the battery manufacturer. Setting the reserve and knowing the opt-out path are part of commissioning, not afterthoughts.

The rules are part of the design, not the brochure

Battery Partner requires a battery installed to SRP's residential DER requirements, under an active interconnection agreement, with permission to operate. What permission to operate actually checks is the same for storage as for solar, and adding a battery to an existing array is its own application.

Siting is answerable before anyone visits. The home battery siting checker walks the locations the residential code permits for stationary storage, and where a home battery can and cannot be installed explains the reasoning. The state licenses Seamless Home works under are listed on the licenses page.

Next door, Chandler covers the SRP E-27 peak windows a Gilbert battery on SRP is also designed around, and Mesa covers East Valley heat and monsoon interruptions. On the APS side of the line, Scottsdale covers APS Storage Rewards. If the house also needs water treatment, the Gilbert water quality page covers the town's report.

Where these facts come from

  • SRP — Battery Partner — pilot term and cap, event notice, 20% floor, seasonal bill credits, export credits, participating manufacturers.
  • SRP Battery Partner Program Terms and Conditions (EnergyHub, November 2025 version) — summer and winter seasons, incremental capacity above Baseline Capacity Performance, eligibility, hold-mode and opt-out language.
  • Town of Gilbert — Utilities and Power Outage — SRP and APS both operate in town.

What a home battery job with us covers

Installation of storage and the backup circuits behind it, with the siting and utility paperwork handled.

  • Battery installation

Wall or floor-mounted storage installed to the listing and to the residential code sections that govern where it may go.

  • Backup and critical load panel

Deciding and wiring which circuits stay live, and which must never be on backup — the choice that defines what an outage feels like.

  • Integration with existing PV solar

Connecting storage to an array that is already on the roof, including whether the existing inverter supports it.

  • Transfer switch and disconnection

The equipment that separates the house from the grid during an outage, which is what makes backup legal as well as possible.

  • Siting to code

Location, clearances, separation and impact protection assessed against the adopted code before anything is mounted.

  • Permit, inspection and utility approval

The electrical permit, the inspection, and the utility's own approval step where storage touches the service.

This is installation work. No runtime, capacity or incentive figure is quoted before your loads and your utility are confirmed. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.

What the work actually looks like

A battery job is an electrical job. The panel, the circuits and the disconnection are most of it.

Battery backup in Gilbert, answered plainly

Who is the electric utility in Gilbert?+

It depends on the address. The Town of Gilbert lists both Salt River Project (SRP) and Arizona Public Service (APS) as electric providers operating in town, and links to each utility's service-area maps. Your electric bill is the quickest answer. This page covers the SRP program; the Scottsdale page covers APS's.

What is SRP Battery Partner?+

A pilot program for SRP residential customers with an installed, permitted battery from a participating manufacturer — SRP lists Enphase, FranklinWH, Tesla and SolarEdge. Enrolled batteries are discharged during conservation events after a notice in the battery app, and earn bill credits at the end of the summer and winter seasons. SRP says the pilot is approved for five years, ending April 30, 2030, and is limited to 5,000 customers. We confirm the current incentive rate in writing per address rather than printing it here.

Does my battery get paid for its normal daily discharge?+

No. The program terms measure the reward on average incremental capacity above the battery's Baseline Capacity Performance — its typical delivery in the same hours on similar days. What counts is what the battery adds during an event on top of its usual pattern.

Will SRP drain my battery before a monsoon outage?+

SRP says it will never discharge an enrolled battery below 20%, and participants can opt out of a current or future event. The terms also allow an event to start even if the device is in a hold mode. If 20% is not enough for the circuits you care about, the reserve setting and an opt-out plan with your manufacturer are how a Gilbert owner covers the gap.

Do I keep my SRP export credits?+

Yes, according to SRP: participants continue to receive export credits for energy sent to the grid under their current SRP price plan. Batteries committed to deliver capacity under the SRP Renewable Export Program are not eligible for Battery Partner. SRP may also email a participant if the battery's charging and discharging looks misaligned with their price plan.

Why does my Gilbert solar shut off during an outage?+

A grid-tied inverter is required to disconnect when it loses the utility, so it is not energising lines crews believe are dead. That is anti-islanding, a safety requirement rather than a product limitation. A battery with the right transfer equipment is what lets the house keep selected circuits running while the street is dark.

Who installs it, and who is responsible afterwards?+

Seamless Home is the licensed contractor of record on the work it runs. Installation is performed by vetted installing partners engaged as our subcontractors, so the permit, the inspection and any correction notice carry one name. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.
