Home Battery Backup in Framingham

Framingham Community Electricity fixes supply at 12.588–15.418¢ until March 2027, and the price after that hasn't been announced. Eversource Basic Service is 17.323¢ through January. Neither keeps the lights on when a line drops. A battery's pay here comes from ConnectedSolutions.

What a home battery runs during a Worcester winter outageThe grid is down and snow covers the array, so the grid-tied solar system produces nothing. The battery feeds a critical load panel, keeping the refrigerator, heating controls, well pump and networking running, while air conditioning, the electric range and the dryer stay off. The short answer

Framingham is Eversource territory. About two-thirds of accounts buy supply through Framingham Community Electricity, where the default Standard Green price is 12.818¢/kWh, fixed until March 2027. The City hasn't published the price that follows. Eversource's own Basic Service is 17.323¢ through January 2027.

A battery doesn't change either number. What it earns in Framingham is ConnectedSolutions, $275 per kW of average summer-event contribution, and what it buys is power when Eversource's lines are down. Size it to the circuits that must stay on, not to the supply price.

Why Framingham is different from the Somerville and Newton pages

Somerville and Newton have aggregation prices fixed into 2028. Framingham's run out in March 2027.

Three fixed prices that end in March 2027

Framingham Community Electricity lists Standard Green (the default) at 12.818¢/kWh, Green Plus at 15.418¢ and Basic at 12.588¢, all fixed from March 2025 to March 2027. The supplier is First Point Power.

What comes next isn't published yet

The City says it intends to sign a new long-term contract when this one expires and will announce the new prices before they take effect. Until then, nobody can quote a Framingham supply price after March 2027.

Eversource Basic Service is 17.323¢ right now

Eversource's residential Basic Service is 17.323¢/kWh from August 1, 2026 to January 31, 2027, up from the 15.629¢ the City cited in March 2026. Basic Service changes every six months or less.

What a Framingham battery actually has to do

Program pay is seasonal. Backup is whenever the line drops.

ConnectedSolutions pays $275 per kW

Mass Save's ConnectedSolutions pays $275 per kW of a battery's average contribution during summer peak events. Its own example: a battery that holds 5 kW through events could earn up to $1,375 a year.

Aggregation changes price, not restoration

Under Framingham Community Electricity, Eversource still delivers the power, sends the bill and handles outages. Supply choice doesn't change what happens when a line goes down.

Reserve enough for an outage

Program events draw the battery down. Set a reserve that still covers the circuits on your critical load panel, so a summer event doesn't leave you short when the grid drops.

Financing through the HEAT Loan

Mass Save lists batteries as eligible for up to $25,000 under its HEAT Loan. We confirm eligibility with the program rather than quoting a payment.

Framingham next to Newton, Somerville and Worcester

Down Route 9, Newton is Eversource under a single Newton Power Choice price fixed to January 2028, and Somerville has three CCE prices on the same timeline. West on the Pike, Worcester has its own battery backup page. Framingham's water story is on Framingham water quality.

Where these figures come from

Everything on this page traces to the City of Framingham's aggregation program and Mass Save.

What a home battery job with us covers

Installation of storage and the backup circuits behind it, with the siting and utility paperwork handled.

  • Battery installation

Wall or floor-mounted storage installed to the listing and to the residential code sections that govern where it may go.

  • Backup and critical load panel

Deciding and wiring which circuits stay live, and which must never be on backup — the choice that defines what an outage feels like.

  • Integration with existing PV solar

Connecting storage to an array that is already on the roof, including whether the existing inverter supports it.

  • Transfer switch and disconnection

The equipment that separates the house from the grid during an outage, which is what makes backup legal as well as possible.

  • Siting to code

Location, clearances, separation and impact protection assessed against the adopted code before anything is mounted.

  • Permit, inspection and utility approval

The electrical permit, the inspection, and the utility's own approval step where storage touches the service.

This is installation work. No runtime, capacity or incentive figure is quoted before your loads and your utility are confirmed. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.

What the work actually looks like

A battery job is an electrical job. The panel, the circuits and the disconnection are most of it.

Where the unit can go is a code question before it is a preference — clearances, separation and impact protection.

Which circuits stay live in an outage is decided at the panel, and it is the decision homeowners regret getting wrong.
