Home Battery Backup in Everett

National Grid serves Everett, but the city isn't on its ConnectedSolutions+ list like Malden and Medford. That makes standard ConnectedSolutions the incentive to price.

What a home battery runs during a Worcester winter outageThe grid is down and snow covers the array, so the grid-tied solar system produces nothing. The battery feeds a critical load panel, keeping the refrigerator, heating controls, well pump and networking running, while air conditioning, the electric range and the dryer stay off. A reserve floor is held back for outages.GRID DOWNSOLAR 0 kWFRIDGEHEATPUMPWIFIA/CRANGEDRYEROFFBATTERYreserve floor heldback for outages

The short answer

Everett is on National Grid. Neighboring Malden and Medford appear on National Grid's ConnectedSolutions+ list, but Everett doesn't, so an Everett battery earns standard ConnectedSolutions: $275 per kW of average summer performance, locked for five summers.

The City's new aggregation, Empower Everett, was approved by the DPU on March 24, 2026. It changes the supply line on your bill, not delivery, outages or net metering. A battery is still mainly about winter outage backup, with summer events as the income.

What National Grid's programs mean for an Everett battery

From National Grid's ConnectedSolutions page and the City of Everett.

Standard ConnectedSolutions, not the plus version

National Grid's ConnectedSolutions+ list names Malden, Medford and Lynn among its select areas, but not Everett. An Everett battery is priced on standard ConnectedSolutions: $275 per kW of average summer performance.

Rate locked for five summers

National Grid says the $275 rate is locked for the first five summers a new system is enrolled, and that customers have averaged about $1,200 a year. Your result depends on battery size, setup and connectivity.

A new city supply program

The DPU approved Empower Everett, the City's electricity aggregation, on March 24, 2026. National Grid still delivers power and handles outages, and the City says the program doesn't affect solar net metering.

What a home battery does in Everett

Winter outage backup, summer event income.

Summer events, winter outages

Events run June 1 to September 30, 3 to 8 p.m., up to 60 times a summer and three hours each. National Grid notes most New England outages happen in winter, when a full battery is what you want.

Choose the circuits that matter

Refrigeration, heating controls, internet, lights, sump pumps and medical devices. A critical load panel decides what the battery carries in an outage.

Keep it online

ConnectedSolutions needs an internet connection to the battery. If it can't be reached or can't discharge when needed, National Grid says the incentive paid will be affected.

Financing exists

National Grid points enrolled customers to the 0% HEAT Loan for battery equipment and labor. We price the battery with and without it.

Everett next to Malden, Medford and Somerville

Malden and Medford have ConnectedSolutions+ offers on eligible circuits. Somerville is on Eversource with its own city supply prices. Everett sits between them on National Grid's standard program, with a city aggregation that is approved but hadn't posted prices when we checked.

Everett also has a water page: Everett water quality.

What a home battery job with us covers

Installation of storage and the backup circuits behind it, with the siting and utility paperwork handled.

  • Battery installation

Wall or floor-mounted storage installed to the listing and to the residential code sections that govern where it may go.

  • Backup and critical load panel

Deciding and wiring which circuits stay live, and which must never be on backup — the choice that defines what an outage feels like.

  • Integration with existing PV solar

Connecting storage to an array that is already on the roof, including whether the existing inverter supports it.

  • Transfer switch and disconnection

The equipment that separates the house from the grid during an outage, which is what makes backup legal as well as possible.

  • Siting to code

Location, clearances, separation and impact protection assessed against the adopted code before anything is mounted.

  • Permit, inspection and utility approval

The electrical permit, the inspection, and the utility's own approval step where storage touches the service.

This is installation work. No runtime, capacity or incentive figure is quoted before your loads and your utility are confirmed. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.

What the work actually looks like

A battery job is an electrical job. The panel, the circuits and the disconnection are most of it.

Where the unit can go is a code question before it is a preference — clearances, separation and impact protection.

Which circuits stay live in an outage is decided at the panel, and it is the decision homeowners regret getting wrong.

Battery backup in Everett, answered plainly

Who is the electric utility in Everett?+

National Grid delivers power, maintains the lines, handles outages and sends the bill. Empower Everett, the City's aggregation, changes only the supply line on that bill.

Is Everett eligible for ConnectedSolutions+?+

Everett isn't on National Grid's published list of ConnectedSolutions+ areas, which includes Malden, Medford and Lynn. Everett homes can enroll in standard ConnectedSolutions at $275 per kW of average summer performance. We check the list again at the time of your estimate.

What is Empower Everett?+

The City's municipal electricity aggregation, approved by the Massachusetts DPU on March 24, 2026 (D.P.U. 25-162). It offers Everett Economy, Everett Standard (the default) and 100% Green, with automatic enrollment and no fees to opt out. The City hadn't posted program prices on its page when we checked, so we don't quote any.

Does Empower Everett change net metering or a battery?+

The City says the program doesn't affect solar net metering or low-income discounts. It changes supply only, so a battery's interconnection and ConnectedSolutions enrollment go through National Grid as usual.

How long will a battery run my house?+

It depends on capacity and which circuits you put on it, so we don't quote a runtime before seeing the panel.

Who installs it, and who is responsible afterwards?+

Seamless Home is the licensed contractor of record on the work it runs. Installation is performed by vetted installing partners engaged as our subcontractors, so the permit, the inspection and any correction notice carry one name. Coverage is confirmed per service area rather than promised as blanket availability.
